Service Description
Available dates from July are: July 7th and 21st August 4th & 31st September 8th & 22nd October 06th, 20th and 27th. The all-day Raku course explores the ancient Japanese art of rapid glaze firing. During the course you will learn how to decorate and glaze your pots using several materials and techniques. These will include the use of oxides, wax resist, slip and two contrasting glazes. You will also learn how to fire and reduce the pots using combustible materials. A type of Naked raku firing also forms part of the days schedule. It is anticipated that you will leave with several contrasting pieces of Raku. The course takes place largely outside so please wear appropriate clothing e.g. jeans, cotton, stout boots and hair tied back. Please bring a mask. Course size is limited to 7 people, and is suitable for all levels. The workshop is for adults only The price includes all materials, equipment and blank pots for the processes. You are also invited to bring some of your own pots along, providing they are made from a suitable clay to withstand the thermal shock. Please bring your own lunch and refreshments.
